Here it is, the public demo! Haven't finished gallery, score ranking and option mode as promised because Mogmog was busy with his IRL job. Anyway, we'll update it form time to time :)
Download Page : http://dudedlestudio.blogspot.com/2011/11/sugar-shooter-2-public-demo.html (http://dudedlestudio.blogspot.com/2011/11/sugar-shooter-2-public-demo.html)
Various adjustments have been made based on the data and feedback from the private demo. Thank you guys! It should be possible to beat Sweet mode without using a continue now :)
Also, the English manual is still not well written :-[ You're more than welcome to help fixing any errors in there!
Have fun and enjoy the game!
P.S. Once I post the game publicly on the blog and the website, this topic will be moved to the Sugar Shooter subcategory in the public area.
I just had a quick play using Arthur on sweet mode and managed to not get hit at all the whole level and ended it with synchro level 4, Saionji completely stripped and a score of 1521510 on my first try. Now I feel like it's way too easy lol. Maybe I'll have to start playing on normal mode now XD. But yeah, sweet mode is indeed very sweet now.
Btw I can post the screenshot of my score if you want but it has naked Saionji in it plus it's rather big due to my computer screen being big. :P
Glad to hear that sweet mode is now actually sweet. I hope people won't say 'Non-sweet sweet mode' like in the previous one lol Many Japanese players said that on their twitter for the first Sugar Shooter XD
As for the score, feel free to post it! But maybe put it in a spoiler tag as well as resizing the image. Currently I make the game auto-capture the last score so that we might be able to do something fun like highscore contest ^^
EDIT : Never mind. We don't have spoiler tag yet :-[ I'll talk to Mogmog so that he can install spoiler tag plugin or something for our forum.
Okie dokie. I'll resize it and then I'll post it once you have spoiler tags working. :)
Thanks Punipen :) Oh boy I can't wait to try this.
I'd be a lying if I said the Dudedle logo at the beginning looked much better. sorry Dx
The music at the prologue sounds much better in the first version. I don't know if it was place-holder music but it fit the mood more. This sounds like tropical beach music or something, while the previous music added a correct feel to the setting and beginning of the game. Maybe that's just me, anyone else get that feeling?
Oh damn, I am seriously gonna die laughing from all this Engrish. I know you plan to fix it, but it is hilariously bad. xD
(http://www4.picturepush.com/photo/a/6883842/img/6883842.png)
HAHAHA- I'm sorry, I'm really sorry, but it's so funny! It's almost as Engrish sounding as when I have to google translate tweets.
Alright moving on from that. One thing that caught my eye as off was when Frey would talk during the gameplay scenes. It wasn't really easy to tell it was Frey talking at first since he's right next to Satan and their speech bubbles come out around the same area. I think if you gave everyone a unique text or background color for their lines it would be better.
@o@; Some other problems quickly since I was holding off from finishing this post but I just saw you actually released the demo:
1. Satan's Character portrait moves as he takes damage.
2. The my score and hscore would stay as I beat the first stage and returned, constantly adding to my score and making when I get extensions very odd.
3. Ran into a short but noticeable glitch where my soul whisk meter was full but wouldn't activate as full, even after collecting more sweets.
I had screens and such to example these issues, but like I said, I didn't know you were releasing the public demo as I was posting! lol
Edit:
Here's a screen of when my soul whisk meter was crapping out.
(http://www4.picturepush.com/photo/a/6886117/img/6886117.png)
It got filled and at first I assumed it was just one of those annoying instances where a video game meter is practically full but has like some small percent still to go, but after this I collected some more and it still wouldn't activate. After a few seconds though it just randomly activated itself. I was pretty confused.
Here's a direct example of Satan's picture moving around.
(http://www2.picturepush.com/photo/a/6886205/img/6886205.png)
It's specifically when he's stripped all the way that's the change in position.
His normal state and his underwear conditions are both in the same position. Here you can see I overlayed it on top and I darkened the background layer so you can see how different the position is. I hope that makes sense.
And here's the weird score occurrence.
(http://www3.picturepush.com/photo/a/6886226/img/6886226.png)
If I'm remembering right I was taking a screen of my score right after I defeated Saionji. But after the second playthrough, when I thought I just happened to score a lot higher with Arthur than Tarosuke, since I was going in order of the partners, I realized I was getting a higher score, it just kept the score I had when I finished last time as soon as I started another play-through. This caused problems with when I needed an extension, so I'm assuming it's not supposed to be like this, right?
And in the last one you can see where the score itself resets once you continue, but then the highscore stays put, finally.
Well, I don't see where it is funny or wrong in that part :-[ So it would be nice if you can tell me what is wrong!
As for the music, I like this one though. The first one was free music and nor original one, so I'd rather stick with our original music.
I noticed the image position problem as well. I think it only happen in the English version because we replaced the image with a noncensored one. Will fix in the next update!
I did not notice the highscore glitch. Will check that today and fix it in the next update! Though, the highscore not resetting after using a continue was intended. Now that I think about it, it should be reset as well and you only get to keep your highscore if you a) choose not to continue the game or b.)clear the stage.
I have never experienced the meter problem. You said sweets but only macaron will increase the meter. The macarons generated from destroyed enemy stay pretty long on the screen with decreasing opacity, so could it be that you were absorbing those and get the full meter? Anyway, I'll examine this problem by monitoring the meter.
Thanks again for a detailed bug report! *hug*
The macarons are the hearts then, right? Because that's what I was referring to, if I'm not mistaken. I'm pretty sure it was glitching out, but don't worry about it. Unless someone else runs into the problem or I actually find it again, it was probably a weird, random occurrence.
And were you not able to fix the random lines on the menu? Also the screen sticking out of the edges during gameplay?
Well, I'm just glad that you modified the circle to absorb more hearts when Satan is not shooting X3
The enemy rate was appearing really fast this time X3 Still, it wasn't much of a problem to take care of them.
Saonji's attack doesn't seem to be too different, but I was able to get closer to him when he was using Dragon Whirlpool :3
Also, I don't want my speed to change when I make my hit box appear. It makes me feel like a snail trying to dodge missiles XD
A bit of English errors, but nothing too noticeable that would make everyone get angry :3
Oh yeah! And can you do something about the textbox in the beginning? It blocks the characters faces, and I couldn't see them eating the cursed manju DX
Perhaps you can put the textbox below the picture?

I haven't found the screen problem, but I was playing at 800 x 500. Could you please tell me the resolution you were playing at?

I'm not planning on changing the way the hittbox appear anytime soon though since that is pretty much a shmup standard nowadays. As for the message box, you can toggle it by pressing focus button :)
And thanks for the suggestion on the magic circle, it really was a good idea!
Focus button? You mean Shift or Tabs?
It's the shift button. The slow down button :)
Oh, okay X3 I thought it was one of those Japanese words, like "miss" X3
Grumbles..... >:( I am having hard time playing the game.
No I haven't played the game yet. It's because the house is too crowded and I can't play it secretly. >:( Do you guys also have this kind of problem when playing adult games in a bad timing? :(
Yeah the high score thing is kinda annoying. I keep having to quit and restart the game to reset the score to zero. I haven't encountered any problems with the soul whisk meter though.
The sides of the screen sticking out is kind of a problem as well. I'm playing it at 1280 x 800 for reference, since I can't see the bullets on my screen if it's any smaller than that. The edge problem shows up clearly in the high score images that are taken automatically. I'll crop and post an example here.
(http://www5.picturepush.com/photo/a/6892518/1024/Picture-Box/Edge.pngl)
This happens on both sides of the screen but I decided to post a small example of one side.
As for the Engrish, it is a bit dorky lol. "What are you? A criminal!?" would sound normal. Adding sir at the end of the first sentence just sounds a bit unnatural. Although he could get away with it as it's a charming character trait. :P And "Criminal." on it's own is grammatically incorrect when questioning what the person is beforehand if you get what I mean. "What are you? A _______?" etc.
On another note, I think the new music is fine. It has a kind of Japanese style in it which is present in the other tracks and I think it suits the scene fine.
Finally, I don't have a problem playing it since I have my own personal computer in my bedroom and I usually use it with wireless headphones connected to it. Plus my room has a door with a lock on it. Also people don't tend to bother me when I'm in my room for whatever reason lol.
I just tested the game at 1280 x 800 and it still doesn't happen on my pc...something weird is going on here. I'll check the resolution adjustment code again. :(
As for the 'sir' part, it's actually part of his character. He's always polite, even when he's attacked by a sexual predator! :P But yeah, the missing article is really a rushed mistake >_<;
Ahah! I think I've found the problem. I've been playing the game in window mode but when I play it in fullscreen mode the edge problem disappears. So it must be a problem with window mode.
Ah that's good to hear! Still, it should work on window mode as well, since I was playing with the same resolution in window mode and it works fine. I'll see what I can do. It's hard to test when it doesn't happen on any of the PC we have here , so I'll need your help if you don't mind!
I'll be glad to help. What do you need to know? My computer setup?
No, I"ll add a local log to the new build to log the adjusting the resolution process. You'd have to run the game and send the generated log file to me :)
I'll release it tomorrow along with the updated manual, and the fixes for score and credit glitches.
Ah, cool. That sounds simple enough. :P
Yeah, I'm starting to experience the glitch with my Soul Whisk bar now....
yes. The score does not reset after resetting the game. ^^'
I got a problem in sugar rush mode after armor break. After armor break the boss moves towards to the starting position and made contact towards me and I got damaged. Talk about short invincibility time. :o that's unfair.

Gah! I found that during the testplay too and it's sooo frustrating. I thought I got rid of that already :/ Thank you!
At first I'm gonna upload the bug fixed version tonight, but let me take a look at this bug first. If possible, I'll try to fix it tonight as well :)
As I was taking a screen to show you where the background sticks out of the frame, I noticed something else which needs to be looked at.
Large:
http://www5.picturepush.com/photo/a/6902128/img/6902128.png (http://www5.picturepush.com/photo/a/6902128/img/6902128.png)
The name scroll of your opponent is stuck under the frame. Not just Toryu, but Saionji as well. You definitely need to fix that. lol
And if you zoom in you can see about one pixel of black space on either side of the game frame which lets out the background. At the top the background overlaps the transparent line of pixels that detail off of the frame. If you just zoom in I think you can see. This screen was taken in 1280x1024 Non-Windowed, but Windowed you can still see the background sticking out at the top, just not on the sides.
Pretty sure it happens just like this in any resolution though. Just checked on the regular 800x600, which by the way I don't know if you noticed but you keep referring to as 800x500, and it happens the same way there.
You should also notice that on the side where it sticks out, Satan's wing also sticks out. On someone's screen they showed they were able to see it sticking out on the way, but on mine I always just have one extra pixel width to see it overlapping the black edge by one spot.
And I didn't know if this was a glitch, but when I'm in the boss battle with Saionji, I lose the ability to continue after defeat and I get the game-over screen. Don't know if that was intentional though.
Don't Read If You Haven't Fully Played The Demo Yet
Some stuff regarding text:
Into Scene:
He and Frey, his servants, are living happily together with the prince's four wives;Sugarless, Tarosuke, Arthur, and Souffle.
Satan and Frey, his servant, are living happily together with the prince's four wives; Sugarless, Tarosuke, Arthur, and Souffle.
A space after ;
Hmm?!A visitor ?
Hmm?! A visitor?
Why was there a space before the question mark? You never do that! lol
Also don't forget to space appropriately elsewhere as well, like between sentences of course.
He-llo. Can we help you?
Hello wouldn't be He-llo, it would be Hel-lo. If you were trying to make it seem like they were drawing it out a lot, it would be like, "Hel-looo".
Ooh, manjuu!! I haven't had them for,like,forever!
Ooh, manjuu!! I haven't had them in like, forever!
I think I know it's supposed to be vaguely improper, which it still is, but this sounds like a more commonly used style of phrase.
This looks highly delicious. Let's eat!
Unless Sugarless is supposed to be talking in his own personal way, this is a little off. Otherwise, keep it as is.
Is it ok not to wait for Satan, woof ?
Is it okay not to wait for Satan, woof?
Tell that to Tarosuke...He already ate TWO!
Tell that to Tarosuke... He already ate TWO!
No need to worry. We have plenty of them!
So, shall we start?
No need to worry, we have plenty!
So, shall we start?
Guys, I'm back! And with ton and ton of sweets today!
Guys, I'm back! And with tons and tons of sweets!
or
Guys, I'm back! And with a ton of sweets today!
Um, Toryu-san, who just moved in, gave us these sweets.
We ate it and here we are...woof
Souffle says that Toryu just have them "these sweets", but didn't Toryu simply give them the manjuu, and aren't the sweets they're eating from Satan?
Also the second sentence should be:
We ate it and here we are, woof...
or if it was correct for him to be saying "these sweets" instead of "manjuu", he would say:
We ate them and here we are, woof...
but if he is supposed to be saying "manjuu" instead of "these sweets" the: We ate it and here we are, woof... Is the correct sentence. Hope that makes sense. xD
Just moved in?
This is the first time I've heard of that!
Just moved in?
This is the first time I've heard of him!
Not super necessary, but might be better.
Sexy Scene:
Ouch... What are you, sir? Criminal?
Ouch... What are you, sir? A criminal?
criminal could be replaced with: evil, a villain, immoral
Ooh. This isn't bad at all.
I guess I have some 'punishment' to do.
You should replace 'punishment' with 'punishing'. Not a necessary change in all cases of Satan's use of the word, but here it's just correct.
Please stop,sir! I beg you!!
Please stop, sir! I beg of you!!
or
I'm begging you!!
You can't forget to put a space after a comma, you did that a lot with "..." too.
Ah...I can't...hold...
Ah... I can't... hold...
Here we go*music note
There should be a space between the music note and the sentence. Maybe even a period added or exclamation mark, whichever, since a special symbol does not count as a sentence closer like that.
Uwahh...Ahhhh....Hnnng...
MAYBE leaving no space here after the "..." would be okay, but just because these might count as tied in noises, not words.
Ahh...I-I'm gonna...I'm gonna cum again, sir!
Ahh... I-I'm going... I'm going to cum again, sir!
Unless it was actually in character for Saionji to say "gonna" then he should be saying it more properly. For Satan it might make more sense, but not everyone just uses "gonna". It's more modern and less proper. Maybe you had a reason or thought he would say "gonna" though. Just pointing that out in case you thought everyone said gonna. ;)
Hmmph!
Maybe replace with: Haaah!
Hmph is more of an ugly, grunting noise.
S-Sir, my stomach...So warm...
Again, don't forget to space after "..."
I don't know if I pointed all these out, but you get the point by now.
N-No! I have to retreat!!
This was a little confusing. I wasn't sure if it just happened to work like this for the story or what. But this is usually what the boys in the first game said if you didn't successfully beat them, or if you didn't disrobe them fully by their last attack. But Saionji says this when you do fully defeat him, so just curious as to what that's about?
Thank you, Alexx! I've never known about a space after the three dots. Really helpful. The space in front of question mark in some parts is just me derping out from adjusting the text @_@;
The screen problem is pretty hard for me to test. I have tested all resolutions on my screen and nothing like that happen. I think it's the same problem with Arthur's.
Anyway, the game native screen size is not 800 x 600. It is 800 x 500. Has anyone try its native resolution and still face this problem?
As for the.game over, it's the credit bug I said in my previous post. Basically the gamer doesn't reset it session after the game is ended. This is already fixed in they next update :)
Good new is that, we have decided to add stage 2 to the demo. However, you won't get to see any Kibi's CG, apart from his Sugar Rush cutin and his naked graphics, if you manage to armor break him.
EDITED : Just confirmed on 800 x 600, full screen. Everything is fine and nothing went beyond the screen border :( I'll implement the local log file soon to gather more information on this issue.
OMG! Kibi!? I can't wait now even if I don't get to see his CGs lol.
Anyway is does seem the resolution problem will haved to be logged through our playthroughs of it. There's not option for 800 x 500 so I can't test that, although 800 x 600 seems to be fine with the edges of the screen. But like I said before, I can't play it at such a small resolution on my screen
Just checked again and surprsingly there were no spaces before the question mark. I think it's the line-wrap script I wrote that cause that problem. X(
wow the guy who is playing sugar shooter 2 in you tube is really good. I wonder if he will play hard mode next.

Wow, that's pretty good! Though I'm kinda afraid youtube might delete the video soon, since he didn't censor anything O_o;
Still, in his video, he only manage to reach Synchro Level 2. I've seen a Japanese tweet of one guy saying that he could reach 6 by the end of the first stage. So, the video might help you learn which part of the stage he missed the chance to Soul Whisk ^ ^
Also, the demo is now updated! We've talked about a score competition which should be sometime around this week :) Once everything is settled we will announce here ASAP ;D
So what exactly has been updated?
Yeah, that guy posting the videos had 300% for most of them but didn't use Sugar Rush until Saionji. That was a big waste. It's not that hard to collect sweets so he could of raised his score a lot higher by using it multiple times before Saionji and he could gain a lot more macarons while doing it too, which would also allow him to use soul whisk more than once. Gosh, I love the strategy in SS2. :P
My tactic is to get as close to the enemy as possible and build up enough to do a Sugar Burst, so I can collect more hearts for the Soul Whisk
Some stuff:
Difficulty descriptions:
Sweet;
Suitable for beginner shmup players.
Normal;
Suitable for casual shmup players.
Bitter;
Suitable for veteran shmup players.
Black;
For those who don't know the meaning of sugar.
Partner descriptions:
For Hitbox it needs to say Medium, not Middle, for Sugarless and Arthur's.
Souffle;
Change to:
Attack with bone bullets that will home in on the nearest enemy.
Sugarless;
Change to:
Front-focus type with broadsword bullets that can penetrate through enemies.
(Don't forget to add a period at the end of all the Partner descriptions, you forgot them at the end of all the last sentences. Same for the difficulty descriptions.)
(http://i43.tinypic.com/14xnzm1.png)
Some more text pointers:
1.
Ouch... What are you, sir? A criminal?
Change to:
Ouch... Sir, what are you? A criminal? (maybe wait for me to edit this again tomorrow about this one lol)
2.
Aside from that I think there still needs to be an actual sentence closer mark in the lines where a music note is used.
(http://i44.tinypic.com/23m1ru8.png)
A suggestion to line up the text for "Continue?" and Quit game?
And maybe make it "Quit Game?" with a capitol for Game, not just quit. Basically right now it looks like the font size might even be different, and going back and forth between the options looks off.
That's all for now!
I think it's okay to have a Japanese word plural. But wow, you are such a grammar Nazi, lol
@Reiga
Nah. It's just I'm a grammar noob :-[
@AlexRexx
I think it's my mistake this time. The space occur when the text is long. That text is pretty short so I think it's my fault and not the script.
As for the Continue and Quit, I noticed that too but totally forgot about it. Thanks for reminding me!
Some more:
Ran into a couple things while going through with Souffle.
One was when I activated my Soul Whisk and was pummeling Saionji with dem rainbones and once I beat that attack pattern one of the bones kept flying around Saionji. It wasn't a big deal, but it happened. lol
And:
http://www1.picturepush.com/photo/a/6986549/640/6986549.png (http://www1.picturepush.com/photo/a/6986549/640/6986549.png)
I took this screen right after I continued because my HSCORE was over the million mark but it went back to this 836690 you see, and it just didn't replace it for some reason. :(
And:
http://www1.picturepush.com/photo/a/6986579/img/6986579.png (http://www1.picturepush.com/photo/a/6986579/img/6986579.png)
The Sugar Burst graphic overlays the pause menu for some reason. I'm assuming this happens with the Soul Whisk graphics too, but I haven't been able to check.
Suggestion:
When you are defeated, simply give the options of Continue, Quit Game, and Restart, right then and there, then follow up the selection with the "this option, yes/no". I think you get the idea. While trying to get a highscore it's super annoying to not have the restart option when I am defeated, and Continue Quit Game and Restart should just be there anyway.

Currently, the highscore will not register if you choose continue, so it'll go back to your previous highscore. So if you love your highscore and want to save it, you have to start over. Or you can continue and try making a new highscore.
I'll look into the image layering problem >_<; Thought I get rid all of them but seems like some are still there.
As fort the suggestion, Mogmog suggested the exact same thing and we're going to fix that in the next demo :)
Hi. I really LOVE the demo of Sugar Shooter 2. I have a Mac so I never had the chance to play SS1, but I am so happy you are making SS2 for both PC and Mac. Do you know when the full version will be released? I cannot wait to purchase it.
Thanks in advance! ;D

Thanks, HeftyHuck! I have a Mac to and I totally understand how Mac doesn't get enough games from doujin scene, so we want to do something different this time :) We're thinking about porting Sugar Shooter 1 to OSX too...but maybe after Kemo Coliseum or something ^ ^; We have many projects in the queue right now!
As for the game release date. The Japanese version will be released on the 19th of February. Official English version might be a little later than that though.

Thanks so much for the update. I am so excited about Sugar Shooter 2.... it looks amazing!
Also, it would be really cool if you do decide on porting SS1 to OSX.
Thanks again! ;D
